State of the Georgia Girl Report

GIRL SCOUT IMPACT Sisterhood, IRL The friends she needs, in real life.

At a time when one in four girls does not feel close to people at school, the question of whether she belongs is not academic. Belonging is a feeling that shapes her afternoon, her weekend, and increasingly, how she interacts with the phone in her hand. Girl Scouts answers that question in one of the oldest and simplest ways available: with a room full of girls who have already agreed, in the Girl Scout Promise and Law, to treat each other as sisters. Welcome is not implied in a troop: it is the entry condition. Research from the Girl Scout Research Institute confirms that all-girl environments produce measurably better outcomes for adolescent girls including better mental health, more academic risk-taking, and greater willingness to try new things. In a season of American girlhood when belonging is scarce, a Girl Scout troop is where she can count on finding it.

Girls in my troop make me feel welcome. 89% of Georgia Girl Scouts say:

My troop leaders care a lot about making sure every girl feels like they belong. We try to make everyone feel like a friend. - Georgia Girl Scout, Junior (4th - 5th grade), 2024
